Muscle Activation Techniques is a bio-mechanical system of checks and balances that addresses asymmetries, muscle weaknesses, and compensations in the body.  Due to stress, trauma, and overuse the body develops compensation patterns to protect itself from injury. Similar to how a person stiffens up when walking on ice, the muscular system stiffens up to protect itself in an unstable position.

Tight, painful, and inflamed muscles are symptoms of inhibited or dysfunctional muscles.  Dysfunctional or inhibited muscles cause opposing muscles to tighten to help stabilize the joints. However, this can cause further injuries, prolonged muscle impairment, or pain. MAT gets to the root of pain or injury by addressing muscle inhibition  rather than muscle tightness. MAT helps to restore normal body alignment, decreasing pain and reducing the risk of injury.

MAT differs from other forms of therapy because it looks at addressing the cause of a problem, not the symptom. MAT will help you return to an active lifestyle staying pain and injury free!
